Ranking of SEO Health of Leading High-Tech Firms

Leading independent provider of global search marketing services, Covario, recently released a new report that ranks the SEO healthy of 30 of the world’s largest technology firms and advertisers. The company utilized its patented SEO Audit Score system which measure the firms from 0 to 100 with the latter being the highest score. The firms are measured on how well their websites were optimized between April and May 2011 from relevant keywords.

First Place Winners

T-Mobile tied with IBM for first place. T-Mobile scored extremely well as a result of link-building, the most important metric in the Covario SEO Audit Score system. T-Mobile’s linking score was 30 points more than the group average. IBM achieved a high score as a result of perfect subcomponent scores which include quality and technical optimization within the search engines.

Top Ten Winners

After the first place winners, the top scorers for best SEO practices included Dell, HP, Rackspace, Intel, Microsoft, NetApp and a final three-way tie between Canon, Epson and Eastman Kodak.

Category Leaders

From a product segment standpoint, IBM was the leader in computer software. Rackspace led the network communications/IT category and NetApp and Big Blue tied for second. T-Mobile was also the category winner in telecommunications in addition to being one of the overall leaders.

In semiconductors and components, Intel led the way while HP won the photography/office equipment segment and Dell won the computers/office equipment section. Additionally, Samsung acquired first place in the electronics category.

Study Trends

At the end of the study, Covario found a strong correlation between higher subcomponent scores for link building and the average position in Google’s search engine for each brand. Therefore, those brands that acquired linking sub-scores greater than 50 ranked number one in their specific product categories. The number of website assessed from each company ranged from tens of thousands to over one million links.

How to Improve Rankings

The key to higher ranking is quality inbound links. Strategies for link building are a continuous challenge for large advertisers. Therefore, by addressing this issue, there is a large opportunity to implement significant SEO improvements. Tech brands selected for the study are from Fortune 500 companies and from Advertising Age magazine.

SEO health is a major topic of discussion amongst Internet Marketers, advertisers and SEO building companies. To maintain a large Internet presence, it is important to practice good SEO methods and have an excellent link building strategy.
