Security Partnership between Dome9 and CloudFlare
Leading provider of cloud server security, Dome9 Security, announced at HostingCon 2011 that they have entered into a new partnership with CloudFlare to protect web servers and client websites from attacks. The combination between the two organizations delivers automated security to simultaneously protect servers and web traffic. This is due to Dome9’s back-end web server protection and CloudFlare’s front-end website security measures.
Dome9 Security Features
Currently Dome9 Security is the only cloud server security company providing automated cloud security management for clouds, VPS and dedicated hosts. CloudFlare can protect any website online. Therefore, the root server and the traffic it delivers are protected.
Cross-brand Security Availability
Dome9 cloud security will be available to all CloudFlare customers via the CloudFlare Apps marketplace toward the end of August 2011. Customers will be able to register for the service in minutes to secure access to their servers. All billing will be centralized through CloudFlare. Recently, Dome9 introduced a new method of dynamically closing ports in order to protect servers in cloud and virtual environments. Through the CloudFlare service customers will also be given additional security options.
Web Traffic from Web Servers
Since its conception, CloudFlare has grown to over 10 billion page views per month with the number rising. Therefore, this is a significant amount of web traffic that is delivered from web servers, many of which have open ports for administrators to connect and manage. Therefore, Dome9 can provide secure access and automated security technology for those servers to ensure administrative ports are closed.
CloudFlare Usability Features
The CloudFlare service is added through a simple change to a website’s domain settings and is available on all platforms. The service does not require additional software, hardware or manipulation to current code. Furthermore, websites will be able to keep their existing hosting provider and infrastructure. Setup and registration takes approximately five minutes and once on the network, sites immediately have a 30 percent improvement on page load times.
Dome9’s Portfolio
Dome9 is a pioneer with regards to the dynamic management of cloud server security across platforms. Some of the most well-respected companies in the hosting industry are protected by Dome9 including, Amazon’s EC2, GoGrid and RackSpace.
With many businesses still apprehensive about switching to cloud hosting due to security issues, this is a major step in the right direction. Now clients will be protected from the front and back-ends from attackers and unauthorized users. This may be the technology needed to spark the cloud hosting revolution.
