Top Reasons to Hire a Graphic Designer to Take Care of Your Web Design

When we aren't writing about web hosting or managing servers, we delve into the graphic design realm. And though it might be self-defeating to say so, we've noticed a trend with other web masters that has us a bit troubled: Most would rather shoot themselves in the foot than hire a graphic designer to take care of their websites design. We aren't talking about coding or slicing so much—though we'll cover them in the space of this article—but instead your average old, every day design. We'd like to see this tendency reversed, as graphic design is a fantastic way to boost your site's image, increase your readership, reaffirm the presence you have, and overall create a more pleasant end-user experience. We know you'll probably want proof, so without further ado, may we present our Top Reasons to Hire a Graphic Designer to design your next project!

1.  Look and Feel:

When you designed your last website, did you ask yourself a series of brand-reinforcing questions? Did you give serious consideration to how to look, logo, tone, and color of your website will affect the viewer, or if that effect will overall influence the reader to return? What if it instead turns them off, and they never come back again? These are important things to worry about, and if they never once crossed your mind, you're in very serious need of a web designer.

The reasoning behind this is simple: Graphic and web designers spend every day of their professional lives moving colored pixels around to influence the way others think. If a designer creates an advertisement, he creates the tone and flow of the pieces to correctly portray the value of the product, the idea that's being pushed, or the service that's being offered. Besides making the whole thing look pretty, his only job is to make the design compliment the real world practicality. And as the individual likely does this 360 days out of the year from 9 to 5, he's likely got a lot of experience at it. All in all, why would you not want to draw from that to benefit your website?

Hiring a designer to create a new or reinforced look and feel for your page can be the last step between obscurity and total dominance. Brand and name recognition are powerful forces, and with the proper steps taken, you too can become an entity worth remembering.

2.  Industry Knowledge:

As with any industry, websites and website trends change over the years. In fact, website trends tend to change just about with every drop of a hat. As such, it's very difficult to stay up to date on what's popular, chic, and effective in web and graphic design. As members of the industry itself, graphic and web designers make it a point to know what's popular. Otherwise, they'd be producing outdated designs that their clients would reject. With this in mind, if you're looking to create a "modern" or "trendy" site, it's always a good idea to outsource the design to a professional. No matter what you think you know, they'll have a better handle on what the site needs, and they'll also be better equipped to implement the necessary changes. And, of course, if you'd ever like to know a little more about the design choices picked out by the designer, they'll be happy to give you the inside scoop.

3.  Time Saving:

In a lot of ways, owning a website is analogous to owning or building an house. For the sake of metaphor, let's say you've just purchased a tract of land on which you intend to build the perfect mansion. Now, at this point, you can do one of two different things: Firstly, you can decide to build the house yourself. Or, you can hire a professional and their team to take care of things. Both are valid options, but both come with some noticeable downsides.

If you decide to build your website's design yourself, and aren't already a media professional, you'll very quickly encounter areas in which your knowledge isn't enough to get the job done. At this point, you will have to hit the books to learn as much as you can, or at least until you can progress past the first, initial stumbling block. However, after that first hurtle, we guarantee more and more will appear, rearing their time-wasting heads with each and every turn. If you outsource the work to a designer, you're hiring the help of a professional who has been through this roadblock-management cycle hundreds, maybe even thousands of times. As such, they'll have a much better handle on how to deal with the issues as they arise, and won't waste nearly as much time dealing with the issues. In the long run, outsourcing your work to a professional designer will save you a boatload of time, and though it might cost more, it will also save you from some unnecessary headaches, to boot.

4.  It's Not That Expensive:

Lastly, we get the feeling that most web masters are simply scared to hire a graphic or web designer because of the costs involved. To be fair, any web master on a budget must worry about their budget. But no matter what figure you have in your head, we promise graphic design doesn't cost nearly as much as you might think. If you choose your professional correctly, you can have your website finished, ironed out, and posted within a week, and at half the cost you might expect. Hourly rates for graphic designers begin at around $25 along the lower-end, and don't progress too much above that. And as we've already established, a professional designer will move a lot quicker than you might expect.

In other words, don't let the fear of spending money hold you back from the success of a professionally managed and created website.
