Ecommerce Website Scanning Tool Released

Certification Authority Comodo recently announced the Beta release of Comodo SSL Analyzer which scans eCommerce websites, instantly summarizing the security levels of the server. This tool is specifically intended for customers as well as website owners to learn more about the protection given by a particular website with regards to sensitive customer information. Up to this point, customers have been expected to trust the digital retailer through “safe” logos and goodwill.

Promoting the use of Certificates

The tool is an excellent method for the promotion of use of certificates among website operators. It will also assist with creating a better understanding of the many benefits of boasting an SSL certificate.

How the Website Works

When a user visits the web page, they will immediately be prompted to input a domain name. Once entered, the SSL Analyzer will visit the domain and quickly retrieve comprehensive information about the certificate, software and web server. The information in the output by the software includes the validation level of the certificate, the type and number of security protocol suites enabled by the server and the strength of the online digital signature.

Information Analysis

Essentially, the software outputs a more detailed version of the SSL certificate featured on the address bar. The Analyzer focuses on the insecure aspects of the server that require immediate attention. These problem areas are colored in red for easy identification. Elements that are displayed in green have an adequate level of security. Finally, the amber color items indicate there is potential for an issue that must be evaluated by the server support team.

Protecting the Consumer

Information is one of the most powerful weapons an individual can possess. Therefore, by developing an easy method of learning more about the amount of protection a customer has when shopping online, the better off they will be. Furthermore, for website owners, this could greatly assist them in finding holes and other exploitations that may be uncovered from the server they are on.

The SSL Analyzer seems to be an excellent new software tool for customers, digital retailers and businesses alike. It is surprising that with the number of financial transactions that occur on a daily basis, no innovator has considered creating a program that checks security levels on websites. Luckily Comodo has developed such a tool to protect the customer, protect the website administrator and give web hosting providers a wakeup call.
