How to Sell Your Domain in an Online Auction

In 2010, investing in a good domain name is probably the safest and most beneficial investment you can make, especially if you are bale to procure a good .com domain. Most people with good domain names simply sit on them without using them for any extremely profitable business endeavor, however, it may actually be more profitable for them to sell the domain.

The problem is, many people don't know how or where to sell their domain, and it can be difficult to find a venue that brings a lot of high paying clients together in a single marketplace. One such place that you could find interested buyers willing to place high bids on your site is a domain auction site. Auctions give you the opportunity to choose from a pool of offers, thereby giving you the opportunity to make as much as possible off of your domain. In fact, you may receive even more than you thought possible by selling your domain at auction.

Listing your Domain on an Auction Site

The first thing you'll need to do is find the right auction where you may list your domain. You may even want to list your domain on multiple auction sites at the same time, to gain maximum exposure. When listing your domain, you'll want to include as much information as possible, including the amount of backlinks it has, the age of the domain, and any other information that may increase the value of the domain form the perspective of the prospective buyers.

Configuring and Hosting the Auction

Choosing a longer auction time will let you consider more options and will also give your auction more exposure. Make sure you answer any questions from your bidders as quickly as possible, as this will expedite the sale of your domain and  keep potential buyers interested and bidding. Just as when you're selling any other product service, you'll need to focus on customer service, especially before the sale occurs. Each auction site should offer an inbox feature that let's you communicate with buyers directly through the sites online interface. Make sure you check your messages regularly to avoid missing a sale opportunity.

Selling the Domain

Once the auction is over, you'll need to contact the highest bidder as quickly as possible. Make sure you don't wait too long, as this may cause the winning bidder to lose interest and start focusing on another auction. Some auction sites even have required time periods in which you must respond to the bidder.

Once you have congratulated the buyer on winning the auction, you'll need to send the buyer an invoice. This process will differ depending on which auction site you use. Some auction sites will automatically handle this process for you, as well as payment collection. Make sure you're aware of the terms and conditions, as well as the various services offered by the auction site, before you begin the auction. Becoming familiar with the entire process before the auction begins will help you avoid any unnecessary confusion.
