cPanel Server Logs That’ll Make Your Job Easier

cPanel is one of the easiest control panels around, making it simpler than ever to host, manage, and share your content. Even better, the service makes it a cinch to track usage data, create new scripts, and modify other amenities like Google Adwords, or SEO management. However, did you know that cPanel comes choked to the gills with enough logs to smother a small village? Each of these is helpful in its own way, making your web hosting job easier.

If you’re unfamiliar with cPanel’s excellent logging services, we’ve got a quick—but in no way comprehensive—guide ready to roll for you. To better understand each of these logs, including what they do to make your job easier, check below:

1.  Latest Visitors: Found under the tools heading, this log keeps track of the last 300 people to have visited your site, offering up information about your users that you might not find elsewhere. This includes their IP address, the URL they visited, the time they spent there, their referral URL, and even their user agent. If you’ve ever wondered who your users are, and what they do with your site, this log is a great place to start.

2.  Bandwidth: Likewise, if you’ve ever wondered where all your bandwidth has been going, there’s also a tool for that. This log takes care of all things bandwidth-y, showing you how much was used when, and where exactly it was going. It’s a quick, graphical way to peep your usage, and to get a handle on when your servers are most being used: A tool that’s useful for any consciences web host or webmaster.

3.  Webalizer/AWStats: Both of these serve up all kinds of statistical information regarding your site, your users, and usage on both ends. This set of tools provides an insight into your traffic, including number of users, amount of bytes handed out, pages most popularly visited, the country of origin of each unique visitor, and key search words used. There are quite a few more statistics to be had here, as well, but we’ll leave it up to you to dive deeper into this excellent cPanel logs pair.

4. Error Log: And finally, we bring you—the error log! Here you can find the last 300 errors to happen under your watch, as well as what user caused the error, and what file they were trying to access when the error occurred. The logs is indexed in reverse order, providing a quick way to get a handle on your server’s daily progression.Popular Links
